Abstract
Through the parochial sermons, key work of Newman, we enter into his view of Christian contemplation as the perception and experience of communion with God. The Christian life is life with Christ in God, a life of real relationship, hidden but continuous, with the Trinity. That life with God in the present world needs prayer as a means to raise all human reality towards God. In this way, it is possible to give glory to God through temporal occupations. Christian life is life in the mystery of the communion of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit with the human person. That spiritual life is recognised for faith, but it is expressed and perceives through the activity of continuous prayer.
