CONTAMINATION OF PHRASEOLOGICAL UNITS IN THE NEWSPAPER HEADLINES: SUGGESTIVE ASPECT

Abstract

The article deals with researching the contamination as one of the methods of transformation of phraseologisms, which has powerful opportunities for influencing the reader's message.The phraseologisms in Ukrainian press are the object of the research, while the semantic and structural peculiarities in the phraseologisms as the active suggestogenes in the Ukrainian press newspaper headers are the subject.Considering the aim and the tasks of the work, a row of general scientific methods and special linguistic ones are utilized in the work. The general methods are represented by description and observation ones. On top of that, quantitative analysis was applied to elucidate the dynamics of phraseologisms usage in the newspaper headers. The special research methods are: component analysis and contextual-interpretative method, which made it possible to elucidate the functional peculiarities of this units having been fixed.Contamination of phraseologisms in newspaper headlines can be expressed by such modifications in the study: to combine two phrases with truncation, to contain two phraseologisms with a common component, or to combine two phraseologisms without changes.The contamination of the phraseologisms is an effective method of transformation, it diversifies the headers, addressing the recipient’s background knowledge; such combined changes illustrate a combination of the aforementioned techniques, and maximally activate the headers creative decoding directions. Milton-model identification made it possible to isolate the phraseologic units illustrating the pattern disruption technique. The majority of the transformed phraseologic units belong to such models, erst, the ones with components substitution, since the fixed component replacement causes the so-called “template break”, interrupting the linearity of the message, and thus empowering the influential effect. Prospects for further exploration are in the expansion of the source of the study, namely analysis of the titles of Ukrainian Internet publications.
