Abstract

In this paper, we study a container truck scheduling problem under empty return policy(CTS-ECR) issued by shipping lines. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first to consider the return policy into the truck scheduling problem. In the backhaul area, trucking companies provide delivery service of full or empty freight containers. For handling efficiency and a good rotation rate of empty containers, empty containers must be timely returned to the terminal. For this problem, we provide a mathematical formulation including a numerical experiment and propose an efficient decomposition-based approach.
