Abstract
We read with interest the recently published article by Paul et al [ 1 Paul P.G. Thomas M. Das T. Patil S. Garg R. Contained morcellation for laparoscopic myomectomy within a specially designed bag. J Minim Invasive Gynecol. 2015 Sep 18; ([Epub ahead of print]) Google Scholar ], which reported a case series of 10 patients who underwent contained power morcellation of myomas within a specially designed bag. We support the use of this technique for laparoscopic retrieval of myomas because we have been using this technique since June 2015. However, we use a different tissue retrieval bag—the EcoSac (Espiner Medical Limited, North Somerset, UK [Fig. 1]). We believe that sharing our experience will help refine the technique and design a future retrieval bag system specifically for the purpose of contained power morcellation, with an ultimate aim to improve patient safety. Also, this will give gynecologists an alternative choice of retrieval bags when considering contained morcellation. Contained Morcellation for Laparoscopic Myomectomy Within a Specially Designed BagJournal of Minimally Invasive GynecologyVol. 23Issue 2PreviewA technique of contained morcellation of uterine myomas within a bag specially designed for 2-port morcellation during laparoscopic myomectomy is described. Ten patients underwent in-bag morcellation of myomas with a tissue isolation bag (MorSafe) between November 2014 and January 2015. The MorSafe tissue isolation bag is a retort-shaped bag made of medical-grade flexible plastic material with the wider opening of 134 mm in diameter and the tail end measuring 4 mm in diameter, allowing easy accomodation of specimens up to 12 cm in diameter.
