Abstract

Key Points Several viral infections such as measles and varicella, as well as infections with bacteria such as streptococci and meningococci, cause skin rashes.Diagnosis is clinical based on prodrome, characteristics of rash, accompanying signs and symptoms, and immunization and contact history.Among viral infections rubeola and varicella typically require intervention with antiviral treatment and monitoring for systemic involvement and secondary bacterial complications.Bacterial infections do need appropriate antibacterial therapy.
