Abstract

For patients with keratoconus, visual acuity with contact lenses often surpasses the acuity achieved with spectacles. There are multiple contact lens modalities that can be used. These lenses include corneal rigid gas permeable, piggyback, hybrid, scleral, and soft toric lenses, as well as PROSE devices. Corneal rigid gas permeable lenses, the mainstay for the improvement of visual acuity in patients with keratoconus since the 1960s, remain the most popular choice for this patient population. However, hybrid and scleral lenses have grown tremendously in popularity over the past decade. Every patient that presents with keratoconus is a unique fitting situation and a lens must be chosen based on the particular needs of the patient. In this chapter, lens modalities along with advantages and disadvantages of each will be described.
