Abstract

An outbreak of allergic contact dermatitis in an aircraft factory where epoxy resinimpregnated materials were employed has been investigated. Of 30 operatives, 20 gave positive reactions to the composite material. In these patients, patch tests with epoxy resin 1% (Firma) gave a positive reaction in only four cases. Patch tests with diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA), tetraglycidyl-4-4′-methylene dianiline (TGMDA), triglycidyl derivative of p-aminophenol (TGPAP) and o-diglycidyl phthalate were performed in 18 of the patients. TGMDA, TGPAP and o-diglycidyl phthalate picked up all the 11 patients positive to the composite materials.
