Abstract
Qualitative researchers often work with transcriptions from interviews. The transcribing practice has been taken unproblematically in management, without further examining the processes and implications on theorizing. Grounded in the social constructivist tradition, the paper proposes a mode-enhanced transcribing practice to help researchers contextualize the empirical material they have collected in the social and cultural sphere, facilitate the meaning-making process of analyzing qualitative data, and generate the potential perspectives for further theorizing. It also suggests that a mode-enhanced transcription as material means of representation reflects a sense of ‘reality status.’ Presenting such a transcription helps increase the transparency of analyzing interview-based qualitative data.
