Abstract

The constraints on the effectiveness of twenty one deep tubewell schemes in Tangail, Mymensingh and Jamalpur Districts were studied. Major problems were the difficulty of constructing small earthworks (aqueducts), inconsistencies in credit provision, and the non-availability of HYV rice varieties with appropriate characteristics to exploit the irrigation. Research on farmer's cropping choice is reported, and conclusions aer drawn on issues of equity and project identification.
