Abstract

In this work, we present a constitutive relation that appears to give a good description of rate-independent magnetomechanical hysteresis in ferromagnetic materials. Notions such as residual magnetization, magnetic loading (or unloading) function, first magnetization curve, major hysteresis loops, primitive hysteresis loops and derivative curve are introduced. The main arguments which are necessary to construct the magnetic hysteresis loops and the derivative curves are discussed. We also study the effects of couplings with the stress on the overall shape of the magnetic hysteresis loops and the level of saturation. The hysteresis loss associated with a general loop is found.
