Abstract
Calls to reinvent architectural practice have been a steady part of the profession from its inception. Widely published cultural writer Douglas Murphy, who teaches in the architecture departments of the Royal College of Art and Central Saint Martins in London, tracks the variety of forms they have taken: from reactions to specific historical and technical developments, to perennial concerns regarding the architect's standing in society and on the building site.
