Abstract

In this paper, the authors present modelling and analysis of the operating characteristics of the synchronous motor with electromagnetic excitation, for driving the centrifugal pump that equips hydro aggregates in high-power energy pumping stations, motor powered from fixed or adjustable voltage sources. Two operating scenarios were considered, namely: the stationary operation of the synchronous motor fed from an ideal, controllable voltage source and the case of its supply from the industrial network. For solving, algorithms and calculation programs developed in the Mathcad programming environment were designed. For example, a representative case study of one of the three identical hydro aggregates from one of a high-power energy pumping station of an existing hydropower facility in Romania was chosen. The hydro aggregate is driven by a horizontal synchronous motor with electromagnetic excitation powered at medium voltage (6 kV).
