Este artigo busca elaborar uma visão panorâmica sobre o desenvolvimento do Franciscanismo o decorrer da Idade Média, conjuntamente com as discussões historiográficas que têm contemplado o movimento franciscano tanto no âmbito da história da religiosidade como no âmbito da história social e política.
