Abstract
Th e intellectual production on the Catholic restoration in Brazil is vast and diverse. It ranges from studies conducted from the ecclesiastical point of view, the history of Catholicism in Brazil, to analyses of a sociological nature on the careers of its main intellectual representatives or on their recruitment and careers in the church. Given such a diversity of topics, contributions and privileged relations, the article intends to highlight the relations between the Catholic Church and the school and religious education of the leading groups in the 19th century through an analysis of the history of the Jesuits in Brazil. Th us, based on the case of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, it discusses the socialand political conditions that favored the installation and maintenance of the enterprises and instruments of the Catholic restoration promoted by the Jesuits, viz. their schools and Marian Congregations. It also considers the evaluations and meanings ascribed tothe movement by those individuals whose careers were associated with those Catholic institutions. Th ey were an elite of the latter who had the mission of restoring the lay institutions for Catholicism.Key words: Catholic Church, Jesuits, elites, Catholic restoration.

Em torno dos processos instaurados com a romanização e reorganização institucional da Igreja que se situa a maioria dos estudos, independentemente da área disciplinar a qual se filiam,sobre a restauração católica no Brasil.Dentre as análises mais específicas dessa problemática destacam-se aquelas dedicadas ao exame do recrutamento, da formação e da atuação dos quadros eclesiásticos (Miceli, 1988; Seidl, 2003; Serbin, 1992, 2008); aquelas que analisam a relação das novas Dioceses com as oligarquias regionais, com destaque para a atuação de certos bispos reformadores (Isaía, 1998), e, mais recentemente, aquelas centradas no papel dos Ginásios católicos na escolarização das elites republicanas (Dallabrida, 2001; Leonardi, 2002; Manoel, 1996)
A partir desta constatação, esta breve descrição membros desse grupo católico ligado aos jesuítas é que da trajetória da Ordem dos Jesuítas no Rio Grande do regressaram ao Anchieta durante toda a vida, seja como Sul demonstrou que os membros da Companhia de Jesus palestrantes eventuais e/ou professores

Com poucos jesuítas espanhóis no Estado, os alemãs dividiam-se entre católicos e protestantes, ao padres de língua alemã tornaram-se hegemônicos na contrário das colônias italianas, em que a maioria dos missão jesuítica e suas atividades foram intensificadas a imigrados eram católicos. Como o governo doou o terreno e destacou a conexão de certas características culturais de se comprometeu com a ajuda financeira para o desen- parte dos grupos imigrantes alemães com o projeto de volvimento pedagógico do Colégio, este foi fundado em restauração católica orientada pelos jesuítas. Entre a escola paroquial e a escola secundária, Todos esses investimentos educacionais, movidestacaram-se também, dentre os investimentos educa- mentos associativos e comunitários, originados a partir cionais dos jesuítas, não mais nas colônias, mas na capital de 1898, data do primeiro Congresso Católico, buscaram do Estado, as escolas complementares, como a Escola incluir os grupos teutos nas dinâmicas sociais e políticas.
