Abstract

Objective To observe the aspects of assessment relating to the inappropriate consumption of alcohol, drugs and medicines, which have periodically been compulsory in drivers’ medical examinations since assessments began in Spain. Material and methods Analysis of the abovementioned regulations and documents. Results Looking at the variable regulations we see that, throughout history, they have responded to what are socially considered to be the dangers of the harmful consumption of alcohol and drugs, and the accident rate clearly related to inappropriate consumption. Conclusions Road safety laws relating to the consumption of drugs and alcohol were first made in Spain in 1926. They still exist today, having been modified over the years.
