Abstract

When desired products are intermediates of complex reactions which may be easily converted into wasteful final products, performance can be improved by selective removal of the desired products from the reaction system. In the paper, a consecutive reaction takes place together with batchwise adsorption to remove and concentrate the intermediate, which is then recovered by columnwise elution. The reaction without adsorption is also investigated to check the efficiency of this proposed system. Hydrolysis of diethyl succinate through monoethyl succinate to succinic acid on a strong cationic exchange resin is chosen as a model reaction
