Abstract

The problem of query containment asks whether the answer to one query is always contained in the answer to another query for every database. Chandra and Merlin showed that this problem is decidable for conjunctive queries [6]. In this note we discuss query containment relative to database integrity constraints or (recursively defined) views, where both the integrity constraints and views are defined by (disjunctive) Datalog or first-order logic.
