Abstract

Although in the history of the West the relation between the literary and the philosophical has often been conceived in terms of a rivalry, perhaps with one field or regime of discourse attempting to annex or tame the other, what the articles collected in this volume devoted to twentieth and twenty-first century American writing reveal is a rather striking display of conjunctions presenting a less antagonistic image of their relation.
