Abstract

The emission and transient absorption spectra of the intramolecular van der Waals dimer of 1,1′-di-α-naphthylmethane (α-DNM) trapped in a low temperature glassy matrix are compared with those of the intramolecular triplet excimer of the same species produced in fluid solution at room temperature. The results confirm the predicted conformational similarity between the triplet excimer and the van der Waals dimer.
