Abstract
Abstract A new 2-dimensional TLC technique is described in which organophosphorus pesticides are oxidized after 1-dimensional development on silica gel G plates before development in the second direction. This system is more specific as it involves chromatography of both the parent pesticide and the subsequent derivative. Bromine vapor is used for oxidation; horse serum cholinesterase and indoxyl acetate are used for detection. Rf values and minimum detection levels of 26 organophosphorus pesticides are tabulated. Eighteen pesticides are identified at the 0.01 ppm level in fortified crops.
