Abstract

Powder neutron diffraction and optical spectroscopy on the canted antiferromagnet, TbPO 4, show that the terbium moments are ordered in a two sublattice structure. The moments are oriented 40° ± 1° off the tetragonal axis in the [110] planes. We show that four sublattice structures can be ruled out.
