Abstract

This work presents the analysis of two advanced stand-alone controllers, that allow to tune automatically the control parameters attending some requirements of the controlled process response. The ES 100 OMRON controller provides a fuzzy logic function (fine-tuning) to gradually inhibit the overshoot and the damping of the response and to improve the time response adjusting the control parameters. The 761 FOXBORO controller provides an adaptive control function, called EXACT, to adjust the control parameters from the information of the process in operating conditions. This analysis has been carried out in a benchmark system composed by three real processes and different tests. The results obtained with these advanced controllers show a real improvement of the fuzzy logic and EXACT function but the dispersion of the results obtained with the different processes do not allow, by now, to preset very precise requirements of the process control performances.
