Abstract

The conditions of light localization according to the Ioffe–Regel criterion are investigated. The analysis is carried out for dispersive media formed of monosized spherical particles. It is shown that light localization in non-absorbing dispersive media can be observed only if the relative refractive index of particles has a value n≳2.7. The values of the particle size parameter and particle volume concentration satisfying the Ioffe–Regel criterion are determined for media with n = 3.0 and n = 3.5.
