Abstract
Cybernetics, the logic of win-win negotiating and emotional psychology are applied to international conflict resolution. All three approaches demonstrate that we need to explore all possible sources of conflict to find common goals and that empathy is needed for win-win solutions that are ultrastable. Emotions act as the reference signal in our control system. Coping with irrational behavior means getting people involved personally so that they begin to give up their distrust and move toward seeing events from the other person's point of view; explore the multidimensional aspects of a conflict in order to find common goals; work in an open, permissive environment to move toward agreement without threats; recognize the dangers to peaceful relations in ineffective behavior such as ethnocentrism, authoritarianism and narcissism-paranoia. Finally, research is needed to explore further these possibilities in building a safer, saner world and a lasting peaceful foundation.
