Abstract
A main chain cobalt dicarbollide oligomer was synthesized using condensation polymerization of carbon-substituted cobalt dicarbollide with H2N(CH2)6NH2. The diacid chloride [Co(C2B9H10)2(COCl)2-] reacts with H2N(CH2)6NH2 in THF to give the oligomeric product, shown. Reaction of the dicarboxylic acid Li(THF)x[Co(C2B9H10)2(COOH)2], with H2N(CH2)6NH2 in THF led to the formation of an amine salt, [Li(THF)][Co(C2B9H10)2(COO-)2 (+H3N(CH2)6NH3+)]. Thermolysis (TGA−DTA) of [Li(THF)][Co(C2B9H10)2(COO-)2 (+H3N(CH2)6NH3+)] demonstrated that an oligomeric derivative can also be synthesized by thermal conversion of the amine salt.
