Concrete Poetry: A Linguistic Technique for the Foreign Language Classroom

Abstract

ABSTRACT Concrete Poetry is a visual poetry form which may be used in the foreign language classroom. It is an ancient form popular still in modern times and in all languages. This article explains what concrete poetry is, and discusses how to teach the creation of a concrete poem to foreign language classes. It begins with an introduction of how concrete poems were presented in various language classes, continues briefly with the history and background of concrete poetry, and concludes with techniques for implementation.
