Abstract

AbstractThis chapter aims to conclude the whole study. This research employs the case of Guangzhou to explore the forces governing urban redevelopment in Chinese cities which have experienced rapid development and radical transformations in the last few decades. Based on studies of institutional background as authoritarian regime, modes of governance in redeveloping Guangzhou, and connection between authoritarian political system and three distinct governance phases, a resilient governance in redeveloping Guangzhou has been preliminarily formed. This research has difficulties in terms of a structural narrative about stories in Guangzhou over 25 years; it is difficult to collect data and make choices among data. At the same time, Guangzhou is just one case among Chinese cities; it is acknowledged that it is difficult to analyse the nature of governance in Chinese cities by the example of one city. To overcome these research limits and develop this research, studies in the future need to follow the latest developments, broaden the research field and deepen the nature of the research.
