Abstract: Twentieth-century transliteration norms for Aljamiado texts, while striving for letter-for-letter accuracy, yield unhelpful or irrelevant symbols and characters that can complicate reading. Craddock suggests that a judicious explanatory note from editors, paired with knowledgeable transcription practices and requisite critical apparatus, would enable readers to understand what scribes intended while producing legible contemporary editions.
