Abstract

This paper considers the carrier frequency selection method for continuous cab signaling using a set of criteria for minimum inductive-rail line attenuation and maximum noise immunity. The mathematical expressions used for evaluation of signal attenuation in rail, inductive, and inductive-rail lines are given, and the corresponding conditions and assumptions are indicated. To determine the locomotive receiver noise immunity, the method of simulating its operation was used when receiving an additive mixture of an amplitude-shift keyed signal and impulse noise. It is shown that, under the indicated conditions and criteria, the optimal frequency values are 325 and 375 Hz.
