Abstract

The universal, historic contribution of the Russian working class consists of the fact that for the first time in the history of mankind and in union with the poorest strata of the toiling masses, it overthrew the rule of the bourgeoisie in its own country and established the dictatorship of the proletariat.1 The Russian working class played a decisive role in building socialist society and continues today to serve as the primary force in the building of a communist society in the USSR. "The working class," states the Summary Report of the Central Committee of the CPSU to the Twenty-fourth Party Congress, "was and remains the fundamental productive force in our society. Its revolutionary spirit, discipline, organization, and collectivism define its primary position in the system of socialist social relations."
