Abstract
This paper seeks to explain the integration of urban public spaces by constructing a composed theoretical framework. Based on theoretical background, four casual conditions- namely, place-ness, convergence in mental schemas, territoriality, and cultural differences, are assumed to exist in the "integration between buildings and city in urban public spaces" (IBCUPS). According to the logic of deductive theory, place-ness leads to territory and if the mental schemas are converged, integration between buildings and city would be percept. This theoretical proposition is analyzed in Iran using a descriptive-analytical research methodology. The findings indicate that the proportion of the total variance of IBCUPS which is explained by a combination of place-ness, convergence in mental schemas, territoriality, and cultural differences, is 0.79.Without persistence of casual conditions, there isn't any integrity in urban public spaces. The paper concluded that Place-ness has a great role and that both convergence in mental schemas and territoriality casual condition have somewhat a great role in the perception of integrity.Integrated places have different relations with triple dimensions of sustainability in micro, meso and macro scales of places. Physical, special, activity and meaning dimensions have different rate of role in the integrity of triple mentioned scales of places.
