Abstract

Various Internet of Things (IoT) services and technologies to deploy these services have been widely discussed by Standards Development Organizations (SDOs). In some SDOs, use cases of IoT services for real deployment have been collected and analyzed to clarify technical requirements. This paper summarizes the special needs of the IoT and the role of SDOs in meeting these needs, especially ISO/IEC JTC 1. It also clarifies requirements according to this use case analysis. Then, it proposes a new platform referred to as “IoT Data Exchange Platform (IoT DEP)” as a basis for standardization. This platform complies with these requirements and provides efficient information transfer over the Internet infrastructure. This paper describes detailed block diagrams of IoT DEP and its operations. Finally, this paper indicates a roadmap for standardization of IoT DEP.
