Abstract

Purpose. The paper considers concept formation as well as formation of the concept sphere being thought of as a set of concepts. The author aims to expand upon the specific features of the concept genesis as well as analyze the way concepts form the human world view. Methodology. Both the method of theoretical analysis and method of mental modelling constitute the research basis. Results. The results of the study show that the concept formation is a process of increasing the volume of a particular concept owing to a number of various (sensor, practical, mental, language-using) human experiences, and it is described as transition from a sensor perceived image to a more abstract gestalt. The set of concepts forms the concept sphere, which is believed to be a mental sphere that consists of concepts being units of structured human knowledge. Practical implications. The results of the study can be applied in the conceptual analysis and modelling.
