Abstract

The article considers the concept as a category that unites fundamental knowledge about the world and plays an important role in understanding the world, thinking, and communication. The existing approaches to its definition are described. Two main approaches are distinguished: the cultural approach proposed by Y.S. Stepanov, which considers the concept as a culturally specific way of organizing knowledge and experience, reflecting the values, beliefs, and assumptions of a particular society, and the semantic approach developed in the school of Arutyunova N.D., where concepts are understood as units of cognitive semantics, closely related to the meanings of words and word combinations.
