Abstract

Assays of ampicillin were made in middle ear exudate and in blood from 10 pediatric patients with acute exudative otitis media after the intramuscular injection of the drug. Levels obtained were well above the minimal inhibitory concentration for the usual bacteria causing otitis media and showed that the drug diffuses readily into the exudate of acute otitis media.
