Abstract

The present article aims to revisit universities´ concentration in Buenos Aires metropolitan area, Argentina, since 1989 until the present. First, we will review the dynamics which characterize the Argentinian higher education system from a geographic analysis, emphasizing the role of Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area and its relationship with university hierarchy. Second, we will comment on four aspects that characterize this concentration, from an analysis of the official statistics and the location of the educational establishments. Third, we will present some distinctive elements of university diversification and segmentation within the metropolitan urban area. Finally, the article presents summary comments and conclusions.
