Abstract

IN GAS chromatography practice, in addition to direct methods of identifying chromatographic peaks, computing methods have been introduced which use the relations between the eluting characteristics of compounds and thei~ structure. A relation was earlier derived [1] between the logarithm of the relative retention time for normal and branched paraffins with an identical number of carbon atoms. In paper [2] general relations were established between the elution properties and structures of compounds and it was shown that the relations earlier known to exist [3, 4, 5] between the elution properties and the structure of a compound are special cases of a general relation obtained in reference [2]:
