Abstract
The Massey product invariants of a link in S 3 are expressed in terms of Magnus coefficients of relations in a Wirtinger presentation of the fundamental group of its complement. This formula underlies a computer program which calculates these invariants. As the Massey product invariants include Milnor's μ̄-invariants, these can be calculated with the program, and a small table of invariants is included. Formerly, a degree q μ̄-invariant has been identified with the value of a degree q Massey product on an appropriate homology class. We reduce the number of calculations required to compute such an invariant by identifying it with the value of adegree q − 1 Massey product on a particular homology class.
