Abstract

Mat (raft) foundations are chosen in case of insufficient allowable bearing capacity and settlement criteria of individual and combined footings. In addition, to obtain more economical foundation design mat foundations are used where the area of combined foundation exceeds 50~60 % of the entire area of foundation. Eccentricity is defined as the location of resultant loads does not coincide with the center of gravity of the building that can cause major problems such as tilting and overturning on the structure. Calculations can be obtained without error in a short time with the help of algorithms generated one time by using software during the design processes. In this study, software is prepared for the eccentricity calculations of mat foundation design using the infrastructure of Visual Basic 2005 Express Edition. The combinations of thirty-six different loading algorithms are prepared to create the program. Thus, all loading conditions for dead loads, live loads and earthquake loads are considered. In addition, the analysis is provided in a more visual understanding for the user by adding the option of displayed results in graphically. As a result, calculations of eccentricity by hand take much time. It can be determined faster and more accurate by using this software.
