Abstract

Draft-Mesh is a computer program that graphically and interactively drafts a planar or axially symmetric solid model. Thereafter, the program allows interactive graphic input of finite element mesh generation information about that model. The generated meshes can be viewed by an existing mesh generation program, and the resulting file can be retained to generate the meshes. This can be done in less than an hour provided the user has spent a short time with the user's manual and has a mesh conceptualized. Either the program alone can serve as a drafting routine or it can be used to yield a data file that can be reused and altered. In addition to the tangible results of the program, the user can also accrue learning benefits in drafting techniques, mesh conceptualization, and the use of computer packages in general. The drafting routine could be studied in three ways. The picture input could be revised to include a selective erasing routine, better response and instruction, and additional case models.
