Abstract

AbstractAgricultural economists and computer programmers have tended to overlook the practical managerial needs of aquacultural farmers and managers. As a result, the latter have been unable to tap the potential made available by dramatically reduced computer costs, by new programming languages, micro‐computers and simple economic optimization techniques. This paper describes a computer system developed to aid the management of a moderate size shrimp farm. In addition to being useful and relatively inexpensive, this system is designed so as to be understood and used by non‐programmer managers and their staff.
