Abstract

Molecular dynamics computer simulation has been carried out to study the diffusive phonon transport produced by a pulse input power in one-dimensional layer-stacked mass-spring model crystals. Diffusion-like behaviors were really observed when anharmonic forces were taken into account for the springs. The time variations of the phonon kinetic energy at various positioins in the crystal were analyzed in order to determine the thermal diffusivity of the crystal. The results were compared with our previous experimental thermal diffusivity data for LB films of arachidic acid, and the agreement between the two kinds of results was found to be very satisfactory.
