Abstract
Abstract An electron beam with low normalized emittance, 2 π mm mrad, has been achieved by using a microwave electron gun as the injector for an rf linac. However, cathode heating caused by back-bombarding electrons causes a ramp in the macropulse current. A transverse magnetic field can be applied at the cathode to reduce this effect. The simulation is an effort to find the optimum magnetic field.
