Abstract

ABSTRACT COMPUTER simulation models of a centralized and a decentralized potting system have been developed. In a centralized concept, potting materials are retrieved to a central location where containers are potted and then transported to the field. Whereas in a decentralized concept, the potting materials are transported to the field where containers are filled, planted, and set on the field. The two potting systems were simulated and the results indicate that the decentralized potting system has distinct advantages over the centralized potting system, both in terms of requiring fewer laborers and higher output per laborer.
