Abstract

The Computer Graphics Interface (CGI) is introduced and analysed with respect to the current needs of device manufacturers, systems designers, and users. Discussion includes topics such as the progress of CGI development, the features of the CGI, and the CGI's fundamental goals. Emphasis is placed on how well the CGI relates to ‘real world’ application environments. To determine the suitability of the CGI to such environments, the relationship between current graphics standards and the CGI is explored and innovative features described. Finally, the analysis outlines relationships between the CGI and application environments, and addresses the need for additional functionality to support today's application requirements completely.
