Abstract
Summary The database GEOSHARE is used to demonstrate some practical applications of a geotechnical database and illustrate the potential benefits of establishing a national computer database of site investigation records. GEOSHARE is an easy to use (menu driven) system in which data of only a purely factual nature is stored. The data storage system is designed to accommodate the complete range of site investigation records in forms that are merely transcripts of the originals. Flexible report and graphic display procedures are described. Three geological case studies are discussed to demonstrate the value of computer analysis of the stored data to the engineer.
