Abstract

ABSTRACTIn the present article, a graphical user interface (GUI) application is introduced for undergraduate students to model a real system. The object is to provide experiences on modeling of a real system with the equipment in the control laboratory by using the graphical modeling methods. It is to show the students how a real system is connected to a computer. An experiment is assigned to the students to integrate their theoretical knowledge with their practical skills. Since classical courses are limited to the related theoretical knowledge given by an instructor, the students can gain valuable experiences with the developed GUI. The designed GUI application provides to the students to focus only on modeling methods. It is observed that the experiment increases the students' motivation resulting in enhanced education with respect to the classical education.© 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
