Abstract
This paper presents the computer-aided design (CAD) of a Gunn diode oscillator in a suspended strip line terminated in a short inductive line length followed by a section of an evanescent mode waveguide. With the diode-equivalent circuit parameters known approximately, this model enables the minimization of the experimental iterations needed for finalizing the oscillator design for maximum power output. A typical 35 GHz oscillator realized with the help of this CAD offers a stable power output which is nearly the maximum rated power of the Gunn diode. ©1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
