Abstract

Presents a computer-aided design procedure for the popular direct, cascade, parallel, normal, Gray-Markel, and Wave IIR digital filter architectures. These architectures are developed within a common state variable format. Using linear algebraic techniques, the computer-derived filters are analyzed in terms of register overflow and roundoff metrics. In this part the fundamental problem and objectives are outlined. Overflow and roundoff errors, in a state-determined filter, are analyzed and formulated for computer-aided analysis.
