Abstract
This paper presents computational solutions for steady and unsteady viscous flows in channels with a downstream-facing step, which are obtained by the timeaccurate integration of the Navier-Stokes equations with a numerical method using artificial compressibility and a time-dependent coordinate transformation. The method is first validated for steady flows by comparison with previous numerical solutions and experimental results. This method is then used to obtain the solution for the unsteady flow over a downstream-facing step followed by an oscillating floor, for which there are no previously known solutions.
